“Delivering 20 bikes at one time is unheard-of!  Set in Motion is one of the biggest missions I have seen hit Nicaragua!”

Set in Motion Model

Who gets the Bibles and bikes?

The Set in Motion model is designed to be an easy, three-step process to make involvement possible and practical for people of all ages.

Step 1. Churches, groups or individuals partner with Set in Motion in prayer and fundraising efforts.

Step 2. Set in Motion uses their funds to coordinate the purchase of Bible + bike packages and arranges for bike delivery.

Step 3. Project site delivery varies, but typically includes a community-wide raffle and interview process as well as follow-up.

Church partners can

• Contribute to an existing Set in Motion community

• Begin working in a different community that demonstrates need

• Support through prayer and/or fundraising

Where do we get the bikes?

Set in Motion purchases bicycles locally to support Nicaraguan vendors.  As a result, vendors may earn enough money to feed their entire family for a year.

Set in Motion buys only high-quality, 10-speed, 100% aluminum bicycles with durable tires.

Spanish Bibles, repair kits, locks and pumps come from the United States.

Bible + bike packages currently cost $150.  Each package includes a Bible written in the native language of the recipients, a bike, tire repair kit, lock, and pump.

Set in Motion selects recipients through a community-wide raffle, which is a fair way to choose families without favoritism.

Occasionally, communities come together to identify particularly needy families.

Raffle Process

Set in Motion works with the community leader to create a list of households within the village and distribute a raffle ticket to each family.

At a community gathering, a Set in Motion representative gives a brief introduction explaining Set in Motion's motivation for delivering Bibles and bicycles.  We explain that, "because the Lord is our provider, and because He first loved us, our hearts have been expanded to provide and share love with your community as well."

Next, the fun begins!  The raffle is an exciting, high-energy event that brings the entire community together.  Men, women and children get the opportunity to connect with each other in anticipation and delight as winning tickets are selected.  As winning families step up to pick out their new bike, we exchange a hug and a few words, but no words are fit to describe the immeasurable joy in their smiles.

Post-Raffle Interviews

Following the raffle, Set in Motion representatives speak one-on-one with the winning families.  In these conversations we get to know our recipients, listen to their stories, learn about their lives and the ways in which bikes have or will help them.  Also during this time, families and representatives express thoughts and ideas, make memories and, ultimately, share love and joy through Jesus Christ.

Set in Motion Food Packages

In response to the 2014 Drought and Food Crisis in Nicaragua, Set in Motion began incorporating a food package component to our delivery trips.  Set in Motion purchases basis staples as requested by beneficiaries.  This package feeds families of four for two weeks.
